Operation day and first 14 days

The TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy) surgery has become one of the most popular orthopedic surgeries performed on dogs who have torn their cranial cruciate ligament, also commonly referred a dog’s torn ACL.

Developed by Dr. Barclay Slocum, the TPLO surgery was originally considered a radical procedure for addressing canine ACL injuries.

Now in existence for over 20 years, the surgery has proven itself time and time again, to be an extremely effective long-term solution for addressing this injury in dogs, providing quicker recover and superior long term results.

The philosophy behind the TPLO surgery is to completely change the dynamics of the dog’s knee so that the torn ligament becomes irrelevant to the stability of the knee itself.

Today is the day, This is the operation I am having done today.

13:45 My Surgeon has just told my Daddy that the operation went really well, I had 1 1/2 torn meniscus which were removed, then Kate cut my bone and realigned my knee joint, mine was so bad at 28 degrees when it should have been 7 degrees, so I hope it makes me feel better.

16:45 The lovely nurses have just taken me for a wee and a poo, Happy days, then it got even better they gave me some dindins.

18:45 The nurse has just said old chubbers is coming to pick me up, Spose I'd better go back with him. I was so pleased to see my man's mummy had come to pick me up with Daddy.

21:45 I've been back home now for about 2 hours and want some dinner.

Yesterday I had my operation

01:45 Daddy's not happy with me, I just walked into the kitchen for some water all by my self without daddy taking the weight from my leggy, he'll be in trouble when I see Kate on Friday.

03:45 Whilst fatty is taking photo's of me I'm having some well earned shut eye, Daddy gave me some painkillers last night but it's hurting me now quite badly.

Week Three, April 23rd

This is week 3

Well we are now in to the 17th day post op and all thinks appear to be going well, the wound is healing nicely, it's at that point of itchy scab as Hollie has started to lick it now

She seems fit and well, but I think she has caught her front foot whilst walking and has developed a bit of a limp, going to monitor it for the weekend but keep her on a short lead and reduce her walking time, just in case it affects the back leg.

This is week 4
